We’re Growing: Our New Renovation Adventure
Last Friday night my husband and I took a huge creative and professional leap. We’re growing! We signed on the dotted line for a little lakeside cottage that has seen better days. We plan to love her back to life and restore (or build back) some of its vintage charm.
We’ve always had a heart for old homes. There’s something inherently beautiful about redeeming what the rest of the world has deemed irreparable.
Philosophically, this is our way of pushing back against a culture interested in bulldozing for bigger and better. One of our biggest laments about our little town is how much many of its historic structures have been razed. We want to play a small role in preserving these older structures that give our community its charming lakeside character.
As the elected officials in our community put all of its eggs in the basket of growth and development, we hope this is only the beginning of a quest to conserve the natural and unspoiled beauty of our little slice of rural Florida.
Here are the details:
- Built: 1969
- Land: .33 acres
- Size: 864 square feet
- Bedrooms: 2
- Bathrooms: 1
- Features: Waterfront
- The Good: The foundation and subfloor are in incredible shape.
- The Bad: It needs some pretty intense structural love on the walls and roof.
- The Ugly: It was effectively abandoned some years ago, and the inside is kind of a disaster.
It’s rough, but we’re certain we can uncover a diamond.
A huge three fell in the backyard, which currently makes almost the entire area a bit treacherous (and a breeding ground for snakes, mosquitoes and other fun Florida critters). One of our first steps will be to clear it all out.
We can’t wait to take you on this journey with us! If you’re not already, please be sure to head on over to our Facebook and Instagram pages and give us a follow there for behind-the-scenes looks at this project.
