Vintage Bookcase Makeover: The Reveal
Two weeks ago, I began a project to tackle a bookcase makeover.
We found this bookcase in a local thrift store for a steal.
In fact, this piece was was actually for a client. So, larger news: Yes, I’m taking on client work, which is super exciting. More on that in the coming weeks as I start to set up that part of my website.
The plan was to paint it, cover the back of the bookcase in wallpaper, replace the glass shelving, and add some mid-century legs.
Ta-Da! Here she is!
Isn’t she absolutely beautiful? The blue paint, the wallpaper, that vintage hardware. But, OHMYGOSH, look at those legs.
When I picked up this bookcase, I knew it was going to go into a large open space with other pieces of mid-century furniture and wanted to it to blend more with the style of the other pieces going into the room.
My idea: Cut off the chunky part of the bottom of the bookcase in order to accommodate new mid-century style legs.
Cutting the bottom of the bookcase off proved to be a lot harder than we originally thought because of how it was attached to the bookcase. It involved pulling off other pieces we didn’t think were going to be involved. But the work was worth it because I truly can’t even imagine this cabinet without the legs.
I couldn’t be happier with how this bookcase makeover turned out. And now that I’ve worked with wallpaper, I’m itching to wallpaper all of the things.
What do you think about how it turned out? I’d love to hear your thoughts below!
