The Great Sofa Debate

Our loveseats have stayed pretty full the past two weeks. Between bouts with the cold and the flu, the lounging has been intense. Each time I’ve taken a load off, I’ve been treated to feet in my face, kidneys and lap.
For the first time, as I realize just how long my oldest has gotten, I’m wondering if I should trade in our two loveseats for one sectional. It seems like a sectional could open up a corner spot to be able to sprawl out just a bit more

Our loveseats are the Ektorp model from Ikea, which were discontinued last year. I love being able to take off the slipcovers to wash, but it’s becoming increasingly difficult to keep my current set clean. Finding new ones involves looking at second-hand or custom websites.
It seems like the perfect time to consider something else. I would love to find something that also has a slipcover; I can’t see my family becoming magically more tidy.

Looking for a second-hand sectional is an option. In fact, Ikea made an Ektorp model in a sectional. The problem would come right back around to slipcover availability.
IKEA did make the Uppland model as a sort of Ektorp replacement. Certainly, the price is much more reasonable than most of what exists in the sectional market right now. I would love to take a trip to one of our nearest IKEA stores to see how it looks and feels in-person. It could be a real contender if we go that route.
If you’re a sectional family, I’d love to hear in the comments what you love about it. Help me decide whether I should keep two separate love seats or combine the space for one sectional.
