The BC Condo Bathroom Renovation

It’s been a year since we wrapped up the BC Condo project, and I realized that I never did a full breakdown of the two main renovation spaces: the bathroom and the kitchen. Today, I wanted to focus on the bathroom and share the finished spaces, sources, and ultimately, what I learned about taking in a bathroom renovation.

The condo bathroom situation was a bit strange. Downstairs, there was simply a half bath. But upstairs, there were two half baths that were connected with a “shower room.” We did little to the shower space other than give it a really intense scrub. Most of the tiling as well as the tub itself was in good shape, so it got a pretty intense cleaning along with the flooring that went in the other upstairs half bathrooms.

Each half bathroom needed a new toilet and a major face lift to the vanity areas.

Each vanity was solid wood, so we didn’t feel it appropriate to rip them out. Ultimately, we decided each one would look fabulous with a new coat of paint and some hardware. We chose Sherwin William’s Evergreen fog along with some sweet brass hardware.

Before replacing the vanity tops, I had told my husband I loved the Glacier Bay rectangular vanity from Home Depot. Literally, just days later, we found a brand new vanity top at a salvage store and snagged it for a fraction of the cost, saving us some money in the budget. I knew I wanted a brass faucet to coordinate with the hardware and loved that this particular faucet also came with matching brass spout.

Given that we had to remove some antiquated 1980s built-in dispensers, instead of resorting to needless dry wall work, we created a custom accent wall in both upstairs half bathrooms using FloorPops peel and stick tiles. This particular company makes wallpaper but didn’t have this exact pattern in that format, so we adhered the tiles to the walls using upholstery glue. And it came out just perfect!

To wrap up, I went with Mohawk vinyl flooring. Truthfully, I settled for this pattern because the original pattern I absolutely fell in love with was discontinued by the time I was ready to order. I learned a really valuable lesson about buying the things you love for a renovation when you find them rather than waiting.

We also chose to keep the existing mirrors in each bathroom but add trim work to them painted in the vanity color to modernize the space and visually tie together the top and bottom of the room.

Budget renovations can be beautiful, as evidenced by this project. Utilizing the existing vanity and mirror saved us a significant amount of money and allowed us to invest in items we felt added more bang for our buck. The BC Condo bathroom turned out more beautiful than even my initial vision. I’m so proud to have been a part of this project!
