One Room Challenge: Week 7

What a week! Week Seven of the One Room Challenge is in the books, and we couldn’t be more proud of the work that we’ve accomplished in this space.

Most importantly, the base of the porch is officially done, and the stairs are built. We got to officially break it in this past weekend with a sweet little birthday gathering for my boys.

I’ve also been spending just about every evening out there watching the sun set. I know nights like those are fleeting since mosquito season is about to hit in full force.

In addition to the base, Rob cut down all of the poles and notched them specially to fit the beams running across the front of the roof line.

I felt so bad watching him do this part of the job because it involved using a good, old-fashioned hand saw. He was probably ready to toss me right on into the lake after about the 50th time I asked if he needed any help.

The decorative brackets I thought were an extra pretty touch.

While he was busy wrapping up these elements of the project, I got to work coming to an official decision about our house color (Sherwin Williams Gale Force). Once I arrived there, it was time to choose a paint color for the furniture (Rustoleum Laurel Green). I’m in love with the combination and can’t wait to see how it will all look with completed cushions.

We know we won’t finish this space before the end of the One Room Challenge, but we’re still just so proud of how far this space has come. It’s already (mostly) functional. While screening it in is in the plans long term, our short term goal is to simply get the roof installed, railing put up, and skirting placed at the base to keep animals out from underneath (that’s a legitimate problem around here).

We’ll have one final update for you all to officially end the One Room Challenge at the end of this week. Stay tuned!
