Front Porch Succulent Shelf

When my husband built our porch in 2021, I thought I wanted window boxes underneath the porch window. I loved the idea of switching out plants as needed, rather than having to rearrange an entire window box configuration as plants died.
My inspiration was this photo I found online. In the photo, actual flower pots sit on the shelf, which seemed beautiful. However, I knew I didn’t want the shelf to come out too far, which wouldn’t leave enough room for full pots.

My husband cut down a piece of wood, and I stained it to match our screen door. He attached it under the window using two brackets. Despite the very damp conditions, the brackets have held up beautifully … no rust, no chipping.
I wanted our porch to have a cozy, welcoming, whimsical feel. The mismatched succulents and their equally mismatched pots look so sweet on the shelf. I’ve lost only one this year; the rest continue to grow and provide the perfect little touch to our front porch.

The best part: Succulents look good in any holiday and in any season. This low-maintenance addition to the porch adds color, life, and simple beauty.
