DIY Antler Light Fixture
Another day, another project from my husband that I plan to shamelessly share here on my blog. Because two became one in this marriage, right?
When we bought Fallen Oak Cottage last spring, a peek into one of the three storage units on the property revealed more antlers than I had ever seen in one place.
Noticing they tend to sell for big money on resale sites, I held onto them with that plan in mind for awhile. But my husband was convinced he could do something neat with the single antlers (we used the fused sets for another project).
He kept coming back to really neat light fixtures created out of various sized antlers and decided he really wanted to try to recreate a similar look using an existing light fixture.
Over time, I’ve sort of grown tired of the light fixture in our formal living room, so I gave him permission to experiment with it. And I’m so glad I let him repurpose it. It’s fun, and it fits right in with the rest of the thematic elements of that room.
He simply used zip ties to join the antlers to the fixture. It was a balancing act to try to get everything spaced out and as balanced as possible. Unless you’re right up underneath it, you can’t even notice the zip ties. It fits right into our Old Florida-themed room.
Just yesterday, he was asking me if we had any other antlers lying around so that he could try the same with a table lamp. Since we used all of the antlers on this project, I guess we’ll have to press pause on his burgeoning taxidermy career until we stumble onto some more.
