Budget Christmas Porch Challenge

One of my favorite projects we’ve tackled in the past year at the cottage has been our little front porch. After years of dreaming of a place to properly welcome people to our home, my husband made my dreams a reality and built it over the span of a few weekends.

Of course, having a porch to decorate for Christmas has always been part of that dream. The problem is that because I own absolutely no Christmas porch decorations, I had to create a Christmas look from scratch.

I set a pretty simple budget of $100 to create a little space that wouldn’t break the bank this close to the holiday, and I’m so happy with how it turned out.

In order to make it work, we had to remove the screen door. We’ve actually had an issue with the screen popping out for months in addition to some warping, so we felt like taking it down would give us time to fix it and give the garland a chance to be used.

I’ve been really disappointed that I haven’t been able to track down a vintage Christmas blow mold. I actually thought I had tracked two down for only $7 on Facebook Marketplace, but it turns out the seller forgot a 5 in the price. While $75 was a great price, it just felt like a splurge I wasn’t willing to make. Until I can find one (or several), I took one of the salvaged metal Christmas trees that I got at a vintage market several years ago and gave it a new perch outdoors.

Here’s a full list of purchases and prices for this project:

This weekend, my husband will hang our Christmas lights to complete the look. I can’t wait to drive up our long driveway, round the final curve, and see our little cottage emitting a cozy Christmas glow.

Cheers from the cottage,

Colleen
