A Simple Halloween Porch
My simple little Halloween porch probably won’t ever grace the cover of a magazine.
In fact, it looks pretty much the same as last year, because, on the whole, most of the decor is recycled. The flowers have changed, and the welcome mat and pillow covers are new. But that’s it.
My sweet little light-up plastic pumpkins (which, I guess, aren’t even made for outside), a string of orange lights, our motion- and sound-activated spider, and last year’s Target wreath (no link, but I sure love this one!) still adorn the space.
If Hollywood can remake classic films without changing up the formula, then I figure that method is good enough for us.
The night we decorated, we stood out on our little brick walkway marveling at the orange lights while we tried to remember if the spider responds to sound or movement. We waved our arms, stomped and clapped like lunatics. And had just the best time.
So far, the orange lights have proven the most unpredictable part of the whole set-up. After having to do battle with a family of hornets to even get them hung, by the very next morning, an entire section had already gone out. Some quick thinking on the part of my husband got us back in business so that we can enjoy the lights through the season. Last year, we kept them up through Thanksgiving. We’ll hope the remaining section of lights cooperate.
Our cottage tells the story of who we are and what we love in every season. For Halloween, it’s sweetly spooky. The spider’s unpredictability is just about all the frightening a house with two small boys can handle.
This Halloween porch is simple. It sweetly welcomes our guests and sets the tone for the simple warmth that awaits inside our cozy little cottage. And it delights our children.
That’s enough for me.
