A Little Studio Face-Lift
For much of the spring, my little studio was a literal dumping ground.
Not that I had any time for creating in those hectic days, but if I had, I certainly wouldn’t have been able to do that surrounded by a mess.
As we focused all of our energy on the condo renovation and helped my mom sort through some of her antique goodies as she and my dad moved out of the house they occupied for 34 years, so much landed in this space.
I spent some time this week trying to organize the clutter. Tons of fabric and vintage linens for sewing projects. Vintage smalls to sell in my Etsy shop. I even color-sorted a bunch of vintage buttons I inherited from my mom’s move. And once that was done, it was time to add some fun new touches.
My dad gifted me my grandmother’s sewing bag, which makes a great place to store art- and craft-related books. I also snagged a few baskets from my mom, which I always love for corralling like items. The early linoleum artwork from Bill Miller found a new home on the walls as well as a vintage charcoal drawing. Both gave me just a jolt of inspiration to live out my creative dreams.
Early in our relationship, my husband and I purchased this rusty tin surrounded by a custom teal frame. I’ve hung onto it all of these years less because it’s my “style” and more because I couldn’t bear to part with it because it was so inextricably tied to our early days together. We thought the shape and color played off my handmade bunting perfectly, so my husband hung it over my desk. I think it looks perfect.
My little studio is clean, fresh, and just a literal invitation to create in between our summer cottage projects.
