12 Days of Creating: Day 7

Cottage blue front door

On the seventh day of the 12 Days of Creating, I lovingly gave my home: a cute little blue front door.

We have quite a few outdoor projects lined up for the next several months, but this one, thankfully, was one that could be knocked out in an afternoon. Our front door was previously painted confederate blue when we purchased the cottage ten years ago. Though it didn’t really scream “cute cottage,”

In the summer, I purchased a can of Valspar’s Bird Song Blue. It seemed to be the perfect complement to yellow of our cottage and the splashes of blue in our kitchen and sunroom. The front door is old, and I knew I didn’t want to replace it, just update it. I peeled off loose flakes of the old paint and sanded it down a bit before giving it two coats of fresh paint.

It’s absolutely perfect! It’s cheerful and charming. And the fresh paint gives the cottage a renewed sense of clean and orderly.

The only problem is that the old confederate blue also appears in other locations on the front of our house, which means things will look a little mismatched out there for awhile longer. Thankfully, this old cottage makes anything too polished look a little out-of-place.

My favorite projects are the ones that freshen up this place in a short time and without a ton of money. This little creation checks off both of those categories.

Cheers from the cottage,

Colleen
