12 Days of Creating: Day 5

New Year's Eve Grazing Board

On the fifth day of the 12 Days of Creating, I lovingly gave my home: a New Year’s Eve grazing board.

Ok, so this one *technically* breaks the rules in that I had to purchase the food. But hear me out: We had to eat, so I don’t think that can be held against me. All of the other items I already had on hand. Well, except for one of the bowls, which I picked up at the thrift store this week … but that was an unplanned purchase.

Traditionally, we graze on New Year’s Eve as we watch Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. We lounge around in our fuzzy socks and pajamas because, let’s be real, those are really the only clothes items that still fit us after a month of obnoxious eating.

Normally I don’t make any of the evening’s festivities look fancy. But if 2020 taught me anything, it’s that the world needs beauty, or even some humble attempt at it, like my board. I don’t know if my pretty-ish appetizer display brought anyone else in my house much extra joy, but it sure did me!

I served up sharp cheddar, soft brie, and a bacon/blue cheese dip. I threw some olives on there for my husband and some honey to go with the brie. I also added some bacon puffed pastry twists, courtesy of Half Baked Harvest. I’ve been obsessing over Tieghan’s recipes lately! I rounded it out with some slow cooker sticky chicken wings (not pictured) from Chungah over at Damn Delicious. Raspberries for color and cashews for crunch rounded out my board. We stuffed ourselves and still have plenty of leftovers to sustain us for a few days.
